With over 25 years of legal experience, Carol’s clients value not only her deep legal experience, but also her practical, business-oriented approach to the practice of law. At Outside GC, Carol’s work focuses primarily on the tech sector, with clients ranging in size from start-ups to publicly-held companies.

Before becoming a Member of Outside GC in 2007, Carol served as General Counsel of Avid Technology, Inc., a digital video and audio production technology pioneer. Prior to joining Avid, Carol worked as in-house counsel at Marcam Corporation, a developer of enterprise resources planning software. Carol began her legal career as a securities lawyer at the San Francisco office of the national law firm Brown & Wood (now, Sidley Austin Brown & Wood).

Prior to starting her legal career, Carol spent several years in Indonesia, first as a Watson Fellow and later as a business consultant, and has also lived in Japan.

Carol was in the first class of women matriculated at Claremont McKenna College, graduating magna cum laude, and earned a law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley, and a master’s degree in international trade and finance from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Carol served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Business Software Alliance, an anti-piracy and industry advocacy group. She is a member of the state bars of California and Massachusetts.

For Carol, the most compelling aspect of her practice at Outside GC is the opportunity it affords to work closely with clients. Her goal is to provide timely, efficient and creative advice to help her clients more effectively navigate the legal landscape so that they can focus on growing their business.
