Lakshmi Sarma Ramani is OGC’s Chief Compliance Officer. She is also a Partner and leads our Exempt Organizations, Education & Social Impact practice group.
Lakshmi has over 20 years of significant transactional experience as both a senior legal executive and private practitioner representing a wide range of for-profit and non-profit companies. She regularly handles a full range of legal matters, including cross border transactions and operational risk analysis; commercial, IP licensing and SaaS agreements; employment & labor-related matters; nonprofit corporate governance and board support & training; data privacy and cybersecurity; advertising, marketing and prize promotions; nonprofit financial, audit and investment support; agreements and MOUs with government agencies, NGOs and universities; support for conferences, events and sponsorships; publishing agreements; talent and influencer contracts; certification and accreditation issues. Lakshmi also provides compliance trainings, supports internal investigations and assists executives and governing boards with evaluating the risks of complex initiatives. Her clients appreciate her ability to deliver practical legal advice in a clear and understandable way. She helps them reach their business goals while appropriately understanding and assessing potential risks.
In addition to her practice, Lakshmi serves as Director of Compliance and Ethics for OGC, writes the Nonprofit Knowledge column for the Association of Corporate Counsel’s DOCKET, and serves as a trustee of The Key School, an independent K-12 school. She lives in Maryland with her husband, 2 daughters and naughty bedlington terrier rescue dogs, Naveen and Tiana. She enjoys cooking vegetarian cuisines and gardening, though she and her husband spend many evenings and weekends at horse barns, karate studios and Indian classical dance performances with their children.
