Martin Lipman brings over thirty years of legal and business experience to Outside GC with the majority of his career spent as an in-house corporate generalist for life science companies. His broad and varied background allows him to assist clients in the drafting, review, and negotiation of a wide variety of agreements, including commercial agreements, research agreements, university collaborations, technology licenses, distribution agreements, vendor agreements, supply agreements, strategic alliances, clinical trial agreements, material transfer agreements, software licenses, consulting agreements, and nondisclosure agreements. In addition, he has substantial experience managing litigation and advising on M&A, compliance, employment, corporate secretarial and IP matters.

Before joining Outside GC, Marty served for 7 years as Vice President and General Counsel of Instrumentation Laboratory (now known as “Werfen”), a leading developer, manufacturer, and distributor of in-vitro diagnostics devices worldwide. In that role, he was responsible for all significant agreements and corporate transactions, intellectual property matters, corporate compliance, litigation, and employment matters. Previously, Marty spent nearly 15 years at Millipore Corporation, a life science company, where he held both legal and business roles. After almost 7 years in the legal department as a corporate counsel, Marty moved over to the business side, leading an OEM Diagnostic Business, where he had P&L responsibility for a $70M global business selling components to diagnostic and medical device manufacturers.

Marty began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office and then spent a few years as a litigation associate at Morgan, Lewis, and Bockius, a large, international law firm. Marty graduated from Haverford College with a B.A. in History and received his J.D. from Cornell Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review.

In his spare time, Marty enjoys volunteering with various non-profit organizations, playing tennis, and biking and hiking with his wife.
