Semira Asfaha brings more than 20 years of experience as a trusted legal and compliance advisor to global organizations. Drawing on leadership roles spanning the nonprofit, satellite communications, and management consulting sectors, she partners with nonprofit organizations and mission-driven enterprises navigating complex domestic and cross-border legal issues.
Semira provides practical, business-oriented counsel on governance, regulatory compliance, employment, commercial transactions, data privacy, enterprise risk, and strategic business initiatives, helping leadership teams make informed decisions while attracting funding, supporting organizational growth, and advancing mission objectives.
Most recently, Semira served as Acting General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel at CARE, a global humanitarian organization, where she advised executive and country leadership on nonprofit governance, tax-exempt organization compliance, fundraising, donor and grant agreements, employment matters, commercial transactions, and enterprise risk management across operations in more than 45 countries.
Earlier in her career, Semira advised on international expansion and risk management at Booz Allen Hamilton and spent nearly a decade at Intelsat, where she counseled on corporate governance, securities law compliance, commercial agreements and financing transactions, including the company’s initial public offering.
She began her legal career in private practice with Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells Cadwalader) representing public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, and other corporate transactions.
Semira lives in the Washington, D.C. area. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, yoga, and spending time with family.
