Professional Summary

Margaret Scheele is an accomplished employment attorney with more than 30 years of combined private practice and in-house experience. Drawing on her experience as a former in-house counsel, Margaret understands that her clients deal with real business challenges, not just abstract legal issues, and she prides herself on providing excellent service to all of her clients.

Margaret’s practice includes the full range of advice and counseling work that arises in the employment context, including:

  • Performance management, discipline, termination, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation, pay transparency, and reductions in force
  • Drafting and negotiating employment agreements, including executive compensation, separation/severance agreements, business protection agreements, and variable compensation plans
  • Investigating and responding to pre-litigation demands and charges of discrimination
  • Drafting employee handbooks and personnel policies
  • Developing and presenting management and human resources training programs on employment law compliance, including anti-harassment training
  • Conducting internal investigations for clients involving allegations of discrimination and harassment

Margaret has represented a range of clients in a variety of industries, including mechanical services/HVAC, cybersecurity, software, aviation, food service, biotech, telecommunications, health care, and government contracting.

Prior to joining Outside GC, Margaret was a partner with Fisher Phillips, one of the nation’s largest national labor and employment law firms. Before joining Fisher Phillips, she was a partner for several years at The Farrington Law Firm, an employment law boutique in Bethesda, Maryland. Margaret’s law firm practice included counseling on employment-related matters and litigation of employment-related claims in federal and state courts and before federal, state, and local agencies across the country.

Margaret also worked as Associate Litigation Counsel in the employment litigation group at MCI Communications for six years. Her other practice highlights include stints at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and Miles & Stockbridge.

Margaret graduated with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she served as an editor of the law review and received the Hoffberger Clinical Law Prize.

Margaret and her husband (also an attorney) are the proud parents of two wonderful sons, Sam and Ben. Margaret loves to travel, especially to the National Parks, and enjoys reading, walking, hiking, attending the theater, and spending time with family and friends.
