David Blackwood serves as Senior Vice President of Business Development for Outside GC.

David is responsible for new client development on a firmwide basis. He is also a seasoned legal and business professional with over 30 years of experience serving as general counsel to privately-held companies. Most recently, David helped lead Outside GC’s expansion into the West Coast market, building a thriving client portfolio across all industries and stages of growth.

Before joining Outside GC, David was General Counsel of McGladrey Capital Markets in Costa Mesa, California for over a decade, where he represented the company and its subsidiaries in many M&A and other capital markets transactions in the U.S., Canada and Europe. He also served as Assistant General Counsel of RSM McGladrey, a top five accounting firm, handling nationwide employment and litigation matters in that capacity.

Prior to that, David was General Counsel of Canon Computer Systems, the computer peripherals arm of Canon USA, where he ran the company’s legal function and helped the company grow from a startup to a well-established company with $1.4B in revenues.

David began his legal career in private practice in New York City, first at Thacher Proffitt & Wood, and then at the New York offices of Squire Sanders and Dorsey & Whitney. He enjoyed a broad-based corporate practice involving primarily outside general counsel services, as well as a variety of debt and equity transactions.

David is a graduate of Cornell University and Cornell Law School (with a specialization in International Law).

He served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Southern California Chapter, and was the Co-Chair of the Orange County Bar Association’s Corporate Counsel Section. He is currently involved with several local charities.

As a native Philadelphian, David holds a special place in his heart for cheesesteaks, roast pork sandwiches and scrapple. He now lives in Irvine, CA with his wife and enjoys many hobbies, including international travel, hiking, photography, music, and of course, cooking and eating.
