Len McGill leads Outside GC’s Corporate and Finance practice.
With more than 30 years of experience across law firm and in-house roles, including as General Counsel to public companies, Len provides practical, risk-based legal and strategic counsel to companies at every stage, from startups and emerging growth to established public companies, as well as to investment funds and their portfolio companies.
At Outside GC, Len advises founders and management teams at emerging growth companies, boards and senior management at larger organizations, and investment funds and family offices on matters including:
- Formation, governance and compliance
- Mergers and acquisitions
- Capital raising and venture capital (SAFEs, convertible notes, preferred rounds)
- Commercial transactions and contracts
- Day-to-day legal and strategic advice
Len’s clients at Outside GC include Raj Capital Management/Revitate (family office; opportunity zone funds), TellBio Inc. (a biotech company focused on detection of cancer metastasis), and Stormbreaker Ventures (a venture capital fund). In addition to his practice, Len is an active angel investor in early-stage startups and serves as a board member for several non-profit organizations, including a Northern Virginia chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Prior to joining Outside GC, Len served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer to several NYSE-traded public companies: Steel Partners Holdings LP, a global diversified holding company owning or controlling multiple businesses across a variety of industries, including diversified industrial products, banking, oilfield services, and sports-related industries; Ameron International Corp, a global producer of steel and concrete water transmission lines and fiberglass pipe for transporting oil, chemicals, and corrosive fluids; and Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc., a leading manufacturer of recreational vehicles and manufactured housing.
Previously, Len was Of Counsel at the international law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where he maintained a broad transactional practice including securities and M&A transactions, and a Partner at Day Campbell & McGill, providing legal and strategic advice to emerging growth companies.
Len has a J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; an LL.B. (Hons.) from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland; and a Master’s in Management from the Drucker School of Management at the Claremont Colleges in Claremont, California. He is a member of the Bars in California, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. He has been a member for several years in New Dominion Angels, a DC-based angel investor group focused on early-stage, tech-enabled growth companies.
A native of Scotland, Len lived and practiced in Southern California for over twenty years and now lives with his wife, Jessica, on a small farm in Virginia outside Washington, D.C. He has two grown daughters and enjoys horses, running, and hiking.
