Bob Michitarian’s unique practice focuses on the intersection of technology and healthcare. He brings more than two decades of legal and industry experience advising companies in medtech, biopharma, medical device / SaMD (software-as-a-medical device), SaaS, enterprise software, and big data. Bob guides entrepreneurs in developing innovative products and processing highly sensitive data, and regularly handles a broad range of corporate and commercial legal matters, including helping companies go public, structuring strategic partnerships, expanding pipelines, accelerating sales, entering new verticals and international markets, and managing the challenges of competing in fast-moving, heavily regulated industries.

Prior to joining Outside GC, Bob served as Chief Legal Officer of BrightInsight, a leading healthcare data management company for regulated software medical devices, where he dealt extensively with data privacy matters, including compliance with HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, and GDPR.

Bob has also advised Google Health and its predecessor, Google Medical Brain, on international privacy compliance and data collection.

He has previously held positions with Genentech, where he led the company’s acquisition by Roche and its subsequent IPO, and with Affymetrix, where he helped create the company’s diagnostic business and its direct sales operations in Japan and China.

Bob also served as Chief Legal Officer at biopharmaceutical company CoTherix, where he helped launch its approved drug and expand its pipeline; at big data company Declara, where he also served as Chief Privacy Officer and accelerated its international growth; and at enterprise software companies Blaze Software and Brokat Technologies, where he developed new contracting models to speed sales.

Bob earned his bachelor’s degree at Stanford (where he was editor in chief of The Stanford Daily) and his law degree at the University of Virginia (where he was an editor of The Virginia Law Review and a member of its Managing Board). He grew up at Lake Tahoe and enjoys outdoor sports, dog training, and home renovation.
