Cara Frey brings nearly 25 years of experience leading legal functions across the sports, entertainment, and media industries. She advises clients on the planning, structuring, and negotiation of commercial agreements that support content distribution across multiple media platforms, sponsorships, consumer products licensing, marketing arrangements, talent relationships, and live-event and streaming opportunities.

Known for her balanced and practical approach, Cara works closely with clients to align legal strategy with business objectives, helping them manage risk while supporting growth and creative execution.

Prior to joining OGC, Cara served as General Counsel of Hijinx, a Portland, Oregon-based independent and award-winning creative advertising and marketing agency serving clients across gaming, lifestyle, consumer electronics, and sports marketing. In that role, Cara advised the company’s Board and executive team on day-to-day legal matters, commercial transactions, and strategic initiatives.

Previously, Cara served for more than fifteen years as General Counsel and a member of the executive management team of the Professional Bowlers Association. At the PBA, she negotiated and drafted a wide range of licensing, employment, sponsorship, venue, player, television, and streaming agreements, including those relating to the PBA’s return to ESPN and Fox Sports Networks.

Cara also served as General Counsel of the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), a global non-profit trade association focused on advancing innovation in mobile marketing. She started her legal career as a general business lawyer with Howard Rice (now Arnold & Porter) in San Francisco.

Before pursuing a legal degree, Cara worked as a sports agent representing numerous professional basketball players during the early years of the WNBA. She also played basketball for Harvard, where she captained the women’s team and led the NCAA in three-point shooting percentage during her junior year.

Cara earned her J.D., with honors, from the University of Washington School of Law, where she also served as Editor of the Law Review, and her B.A. from Harvard University. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar and California State Bar (inactive).

A Chicago native now living in Portland, Oregon, Cara is a lifelong Chicago sports fan, modern architecture enthusiast, and proud parent of two children and a bernedoodle named Wrigley.
