Kate Cronin brings nearly 30 years of experience advising companies operating at the intersection of technology, regulation, and commercial strategy, with much of her career spent working alongside the teams commercializing new technologies in highly regulated industries.

Kate works with clients across the financial services, data services, technology, information security, and sustainability sectors on a broad range of legal and operational matters. Her practice focuses on complex commercial transactions involving hosted services (SaaS), licensing (data, software, content), managed services, professional services, professional services, consulting arrangements, and network and telecommunication services. She also advises on start-up challenges, corporate governance, internal policy development, compliance, and data privacy issues.

Leveraging early experience in litigation, corporate investigations, and environmental law, combined with years of in-house work in regulatory compliance and corporate supplier responsibility, Kate brings a distinctive perspective to emerging sustainability issues and climate risk analysis.

Prior to joining OGC, Kate served as Deputy General Counsel for FactSet Research Services, a global financial data and fintech company. In that role, she advised on corporate governance, public company compliance, commercial transactions, employment matters, litigation, intellectual property matters, data privacy, and cybersecurity.

Previously,  Kate spent nine years at Citigroup, where she partnered closely with fintech and innovations teams developing and deploying new technologies, including Citi’s mobile banking platforms. During her time in Citi’s Technology Law Group, she developed deep commercial transactional experience negotiating deals involving hosted (SaaS) services, software licensing, managed services, professional services, network and hardware agreements. She also handled complex data privacy, OCC compliance, open source software and intellectual property transactional matters.

Before Citi, Kate spent seven years at AT&T, where she served as Chief Counsel for AT&T CallVantage, one of the telecommunication industry’s earliest voice-over-the-internet services. She also supported AT&T’s entry in local telecommunication services and worked closely with the company’s regulatory and government affairs team.

Kate began her legal career as a litigation associate with Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand in Washington, D.C. During that time, Kate served as pro bono counsel for a refugee seeking political asylum, arguing before the Fourth Circuit and petitioning the Supreme Court for certiorari before Congress granted legislative relief and asylum to certain Haitian refugees.

Kate welcomes opportunities to work with organizations focused on innovation, sustainability, and positive social impact, including nonprofits and environmental technology companies.

Kate graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame where she was a member of the varsity field hockey team, and received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a member of both the New York State and District of Columbia Bars, and admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Kate volunteers with numerous local community organizations, including having served as a member of the St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Parish Council and leading her public school district’s environmental sustainability group. She also enjoys skiing, sailing, and supporting youth sailing, including co-chairing youth dinghy sailing team race national events.
