Michelle Rosenberg leads Outside GC’s Intellectual Property & Innovation practice. She is an intellectual property attorney with more than 30 years of experience developing and managing sophisticated IP portfolios, resolving IP-related disputes, and drafting and negotiating complex license agreements.

Michelle works with companies of all sizes and stages of growth, providing IP counsel services including:

  • Selecting and clearing trademarks
  • Registering trademarks domestically and internationally
  • Developing patent strategy
  • Preparing and prosecuting patent applications
  • Enforcing IP rights and responding to claims of infringement
  • Drafting and negotiating IP, technology, and software agreements
  • Developing open source license compliance programs

In addition, Michelle works closely with the technology transfer offices of some of the nation’s top-tier universities, providing part-time IP counsel services, including review of invention disclosures, pending applications, and patent portfolios; budget preparation and analysis; supervising outside counsel; and developing best practices for internal processes.

Prior to joining Outside GC, Michelle served as Division Counsel to Analog Devices, Inc., where she handled all issues facing the DSP and Micromachined Products divisions, as well as company-wide threats of intellectual property infringement.

Before Analog Devices, Michelle was intellectual property counsel for RSA Security Inc. (now part of Dell Inc.), a leading provider of network security and data encryption products. At RSA, she managed the company’s worldwide patent and trademark portfolios, including development of portfolio strategy, conducting patent committee meetings, and collaborating with management and engineering. Michelle also oversaw the company’s outside counsel, helping to develop strategy for and manage the day-to-day activities in the successful defense and resolution of five patent infringement lawsuits in the United States, one of which continued through jury trial and appeal. She also performed intellectual property due diligence for five acquisitions and assisted with the acquisition of RSA Security by EMC Corporation.

Michelle began her legal career in private practice, first as an intellectual property associate at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP and then at Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP, focusing her practice on drafting and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications. Michelle received her B.S. in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, with high distinction, and her J.D. from Boston College Law School, magna cum laude.

In addition to her practice, Michelle is an Adjunct Teaching Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she teaches a course in Cyberlaw and Policy. She is also passionate about promoting STEM education with elementary school students and believes that the best way to interest students in science and engineering is to make it hands-on and fun. She leads science and robotics clubs at a local elementary school and visits many K-5 classes throughout the year with science experiments and hands-on activities.
