Paula Evans is an intellectual property attorney with more than 30 years of experience advising universities, research institutions, life sciences companies, and investors on the protection, commercialization, and strategic management of intellectual property. She helps clients develop intellectual property strategies that support technology transfer, licensing, financing, and broader business objectives.

As a registered patent attorney, Paula’s practice focuses on patent portfolio development and management, infringement and validity analysis, licensing, collaborations, and other technology transactions involving life sciences, drug discovery, diagnostics, and therapeutic development. She also counsels clients on intellectual property due diligence and patent portfolio analysis in connection with financings, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.

Previously, Paula served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Nuclea Biotechnologies, Inc., where she oversaw  the company’s patent portfolio, licensing and commercial transactions, corporate compliance, securities offerings, shareholder relations, litigation, and regulatory matters.

Earlier in her career, Paula spent more than twenty years in private practice representing clients across the life sciences industry, ranging from early-stage biotechnology companies to established pharmaceutical and diagnostics organizations. She was most recently a partner at Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, LLP (now called SNR Denton), where her practice focused on business transactional and intellectual property matters. She also practiced at Palmer and Dodge, LLP as a partner in the business practice group and co-chair of the firm’s patent practice group, and finally, at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP, as a partner in the patent and intellectual property practice group.

In addition to her legal practice, Paula served as an adjunct faculty member at Boston University Law School, teaching professional development courses in the areas of intellectual property and business transactions. She has also authored numerous articles on intellectual property matters.

Paula earned her J.D., cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and her B.S. in Biology from Purdue University. Paula is a life-long fan of the Red Sox and Bruins, and enjoys going to games with her husband. When she is not cheering on her teams, she enjoys baking artisan breads, walking and taking yoga classes.
