Rick Reed brings nearly 30 years of legal experience in the healthcare industry to his clients, with a focus on compliance, privacy, and enterprise-wide risk management issues. Rick has worked with a wide range of clients in this space, including providers, payers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and higher education, assisting them with risk mitigation matters and the design and implementation of effective compliance programs. Throughout his career, Rick has leveraged a holistic approach to his work, integrating legal, risk management, and compliance initiatives with business processes across various healthcare organizations.

Most recently, Rick served as Legal Privacy Counsel at Philips, a global health technology company, offering analysis and guidance on complex privacy and data security laws. His responsibilities included negotiating privacy provisions in contracts, drafting organizational privacy documents, and interpreting complex regulations for internal stakeholders.

Prior to Philips, he was Privacy & Data Protection Officer at Capital Blue Cross, where he helped set corporate direction for privacy efforts and ensured compliance with federal and state regulations. In this role, Rick led the company’s responses to large-scale breaches and cyberattacks, developed policies and training programs, and provided guidance on complex privacy matters.

Earlier in his career, Rick held positions as Corporate Counsel at Geneia; Senior Vice President & Chief Risk Officer at Diakon; Associate Vice President and Compliance Officer at ImClone; Vice President, Corporate Compliance & Chief Privacy Officer at Catholic Health East; and Assistant Corporate Compliance Officer at the University of Pennsylvania. In all of these roles, Rick represented his clients before federal and state regulators, oversaw compliance activities related to corporate integrity agreements, conducted numerous internal investigations, and managed organizational responses to data breaches.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Rick worked as a Registered Nurse in psychiatry, substance abuse, and insurance case management. He earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Luzerne County Community College, a bachelor’s degree in political science from Rutgers University, and his law degree from the Delaware Law School of Widener University.

When not working, Rick enjoys cooking, hiking, and spoiling his Lab, Addie.
